http://www.anthropocene-curriculum.org/ http://www.anthropocene-curriculum.org/app/ Letter of motivation (3500 characters max.) I want to participate in and contribute to The ANTHROPOCENE CURRICULUM because I want to leave the legacy of knowledge to the survivors of the upcoming collapses of the “global consumer civilization”. I want them to be able to learn from our mistakes, and not repeat them. My goal is to create a new culture, a new way of thinking, new myths, new vision, new consciousness. What I like about THE ANTHROPOCENE PROJECT is its inclusiveness and interdisciplinary approach, because I believe that quest for the answers will require artists AND scientists, economics AND politics, activism AND philosophy, creativity AND research, and finally practical, hands-on, direct action. I have a view of what the “lessons for the future” could be; however, I would like to expand my views, learn from the other participants in THE ANTHROPOCENE PROJECT, and contribute to the curriculum so that the knowledge will be spread. For me, Anthropocene is the sum of human cultures based on “progress” and (economic) “growth". It is based on the (ab)use of natural resources that are limited and non-renewable on the time-scale of human civilizations. Anything that civilized humans consider a "resource" -- food, fossil fuels, drinkable water, forests, land, animals, precious metals, plants, “primitive” humans -- is part of the balanced ecosystem, and is object to universal laws of nature. “Any growth in rates of consumption of material resources can not be sustained on the finite globe.” For the last 10.000 years we have been going from one crisis to another; all civilizations have collapsed, only to be replaced with the next. Now, finally, we have a Global Consumer Civilization: regardless of the political affiliation or economic system -- capitalist or communist, democratic or dictatorial -- EVERY way of life that is allowing or encouraging taking more from the environment then giving back, is unsustainable. Every religious or scientific teaching that positions humans above the other inhabitants of the living planet is unsustainable. Anthropocene, too, will collapse. I wonder what will come after it, and what will be the new name. The future generations, in year 3000, will need a new culture, new stories. My view of the new culture is: - do not take more then is our share - we are at the same level as other living beings, not on top of hierarchy - we are as important element in the whole system, as any other element - focus on the personal growth, rather then economic growth - make sure as many as possible species survive, since we are interdependent - connect with your own spiritual nature, and the natural world around you, instead of controlling or serving other human or non-human beings - create symbiotic systems of plants, animals, earths and waters instead of "social networks" - instead of being owner or consumer, ruler or user, be a PART -- a particle in the participating Universe. My focus of interest is to harness the power of HACKERS ETHICS, and explore overlaps between hackers community and other similar movements, in order to extract the lessons for the future generations (year 3000; post-collapse-Earth). The new generations can learn about Playfulness, Sharing, Openness and Decentralization from the hackers. However, hackers need to learn more about Empathy, being part of Nature (rather then “fixing” it), and Spiritual Connection. Personally, Life has already taught me that all we can do is to love, that openness also means courage to be vulnerable, and that death is part of life. As a part of ANTHROPOCENE CAMPUS, I want to make connections between hackers, women, artists, Internet activists, farmers, and youth. I want to contribute to workshops and coursebook, with my experience as a trainer and lecturer and workshop organizer; I want to contribute to the exhibitions and artistic performances, as a part of my growth outside of my comfort zone.
